Senior Technical Assistant reviews applications affecting facilities owned and/or operated by TransGas and issues appropriate permits and legal agreements, which ensure activities affecting the operation company pipelines and facilities are conducted in a consistent and safe manner and in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements to protect the integrity of these facilities. The Senior Technical Assistant provides technical support to internal and external customers regarding permit and agreement requirements and maintains accurate and current departmental records to reflect the addition of new pipelines and facilities and other operating activities.
Core Responsibilities
Pipeline Crossing Agreements and Permits
Initiating, preparing and authorizing facilities permits and issuing them to applicants within departmental and regulatory timelines.
Preparing and coordinating legal pipeline crossing agreements for execution.
Identifying and initiating actions necessary to meet safety and regulatory standards concerning TransGas pipeline right-of-way and Company facilities within the right-of-way.
Departmental Databases and Records
Update pipeline license, inquiry, and permit information databases and records ensuring information is correct and complete, by:
Referencing original documents and drawings (such as: plans of survey, pipeline licenses, survey notes, transmission line reports, crossing agreements, regulatory approvals, etc.).
Initiating amendments to pipeline records as required.
Technical Support
Coordinate time sensitive pipeline permit applications between Operations and the applicant.
Prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports including charts and graphs (e.g. pipeline inquiries, pipeline footage report, etc.)

Prepare routing sketches and estimates.
Obtaining approvals from third parties.
Performing field assessments.
Assist in the preparation of applications for regulatory agencies such as Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy & Mines, National Energy Board, Manitoba Public Utilities Board, Alberta Energy Utilities Board, Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour, etc.
Education & Experience
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Engineering Technology Diploma (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, CAD or Structural), from a recognized institution.
Eligible for membership with Saskatchewan Applied Science Technicians and Technologists (SASTT)
Two (2) years experience in the application of technical theories and practices of work associated with natural gas system design, construction, operations or pipeline integrity
OR
Grade 12 or equivalent (Including Math A30 and B30 (Algebra), Math C30 (Geometry-Trigonometry) and Physics 30)
Five (5) years experience involving the application of technical theories and practices of work associated with natural gas system design, construction, operations or pipeline integrity.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
